How to pair your phone to the BMW Bluetooth system
1) Press and hold the pairing button with the ignition off.
While holding the button turn the ignition to the accessory
position, (first position), keep holding the button for an
additional 3 seconds, and let go. The instrument
cluster, radio or nav
display will show the words Bluetooth Pairing.
2) Follow the instructions in the owners
manual of your cellular phone to DISCOVER Bluetooth.
Once the system is found use the Pairing Key code found on
your ULF module part number sticker. Once the system and
phone find each other the radio or nav display will say Pairing successful.
At this time you can turn the key off, and using the phone's
users guide set the phone to BLUETOOTH always ON, and not
automatic. PLEASE NOTE the steering wheel button is NOT
the pairing button, and does not support pairing of phones.
How to
set your BMW Bluetooth system in pairing mode short video
(3MB MPEG)
The BMW Bluetooth system allows you to navigate the phone book
on your "High" instrument cluster (cluster pictured
below with a line of text at the bottom), navigation display, MID, or
Radio display, using the steering wheel buttons, radio
controls or navigation controls. You can use the "FACE"
button on your steering wheel to initiate voice recognition
commands for phone voice tags, number dialing, notepad and
navigation commands (if equipped). If your steering
wheel does not have the face button, but a picture of a
PHONE,
you can still use the button to accept and initiate a redial
or dial from phone book but the pairing button will be the
only way to initiate voice commands (although some users
report the following in the 99 and newer model years with the
PHONE picture on the steering wheel: If the radio info
is up on the instrument cluster, pressing the PHONE steering
wheel button and holding for a few seconds will prompt voice
activation. If phone info is up on the instrument cluster,
pressing that same button will dial the last number called).
You can use the R/T button on my steering wheel to toggle the
control between radio and telephone .
BMW Bluetooth system operation without navigation with the
"High" Cluster
Using the steering wheel controls or the radio controls, you
can initiate voice commands, dial numbers from your phonebook,
see call status or read SMS messages (ALL Phonebook and SMS
features are phone dependant. The Bluetooth phone must
support this Bluetooth profile to operate correctly).
SMS is NOT supported at all on the
first
generation ULF module. We only use the latest ULF
modules available as they support the features detailed below.

BMW Bluetooth system operation without navigation with the
standard BMW Instrument Cluster
With the BMW standard instrument Cluster display, no
line of text below cluster, you can use the R/T button to switch the from
telephone to radio, up
and down controls to scroll through the phonebook, and use either the FACE
button on the steering wheel or pairing button to initiate the voice
recognition or navigation or phonebook dialing. Phone information
using this instrument cluster are shown on the radio display.

Using the BMW Steering wheel controls to navigate the phonebook and
activate voice commands
You can use the R/T button to switch the "High" Cluster display from up
and down radio controls to phonebook controls, and use either the FACE
button on the steering wheel or pairing button to initiate the voice
recognition or navigation or phonebook dialing .

Pictures of the BMW Bluetooth operation with navigation
Using the navigation controls you can dial from the phonebook of your
Bluetooth phone, call up last dialed numbers, initiate voice
commands, dial numbers from your phonebook, see call status or read SMS
messages (ALL Phonebook and SMS features are phone dependant. The
Bluetooth phone must support this Bluetooth profile to operate correctly)
SMS is NOT supported at all on the
first generation ULF
module. We only use the latest ULF modules available as they
support the features detailed below.

BMW ASSIST (BMW Onstar) is not supported with the BMW ULF module, although pressing the
Emergency option will give you location details similar to the assist
emergency functionality. BMW Assist (BMW version of Onstar) is
only available with the 2005 and newer BMWs using a different computer
system, and the X5 using the Bluetooth assist module that can not be
retrofitted in older vehicles because of the lack of coding required to
support this feature..
