| 1. The Navigation display in my BMW or Range Rover is blank or flickering, and the radio turns itself off after 2 minutes. |
In this scenario typically you can turn the radio back on by pressing the volume button however it will turn itself back off again after approx. 2 minutes.
The issue described above is typical if the navigation computer in the rear compartment of the car is faulty. The navigation system is similar to a desktop computer/monitor where the smarts are in the computer system in the rear and the front is simply a display. If something is not being shown properly on the navigation display it is most likely the issue is with the navigation computer and not the navigation display.

Replacing the Navigation computer is a simple and straight forward task of simply remove and replacing. The older versions of the BMW navigation system can all be replaced with the newer navigation computer as found on this page:

| 3. I have a BMW or Range Rover with navigation and I can not turn on the radio. When I press the volume button to turn it on the amber light on the navigation display does not turn on. |
This issue is common when the navigation radio module in the rear of the car is faulty. You can simply remove and replace the old Radio module with the new one. Removing and replacing the old navigation radio module is very easy and straight forward. Simply remove and replace the module. The newest BM53 radio modules we sell support the BMW Sirius Satellite receivers, Aux input cables and BMW cd changers that play MP3 and display ID3 tags (Sirius also requires the Sirius receiver and mkiv navigation computer, ID3 tags require the MKIV navigation computer)

If your BMW was built prior to 09/01 Production then you will need the old to new adapter harness as the old radios built prior to 09/01 production have a different connector http://www.bimmernav.com/url/old2new/
The BM53 radio is a silver box in the trunk that has two connectors. A power connector and antenna connector. It is a very simple replacement item that requires minimal tools.

| 4. My BMW or Range Rover is displaying intermittent issues. Sometimes if I press a button on the navigation display I get no response. Items that used to show on the display are no longer being displayed |
If you are seeing intermittent issues Start with the battery. Low voltage on the battery can cause intermittent ibus (BMW entertainment computer network) errors. Despite the fact the car may running, low voltage on the battery, will cause errors as the ibus operates on voltage that pulls to ground. It does not matter if the car is running or not. A defective battery will cause intermittent errors and these errors will be displayed in unexplained issues. The first place to start is with the battery
To test: Turn Off car. Turn on off high beams on 5 min. Test voltage at battery. If below 12.25 (less than 50% state of charge) replace battery. A very detailed BMW document on the subject can be found here www.e38.org/battery.pdf |

| 5. How can you test the battery voltage in a BMW or Range Rover using the instrument Cluster. Only for BMW/RR with High cluster (line of text below the speedo) |
Ignition key must be “off”.
• Press and hold the Check Control button in the instrument cluster (RIGHT button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).
* You will first see "Check Control OK", some seconds later you will see "Test Nr.01"
* Push the left button on the instrument cluster to see the car's identification number. Add the 5 digits (not 6) together and write down that number, you will need it for unlocking all the functions. Example: A123457 will lead to 2+3+4+5+7 = 21
* Push the right button until you see "Test Nr.19"
* Push left button until you see the number that is equal to the one you calculated above
* Push right button until it displays Test Nr 9

| 6. I purchased a BMW Bluetooth retrofit Kit from Bimmernav and would like to know the passkey. Where can I find this information? |
The passkey for the bluetooth modules are located on the side of the bluetooth module. There is a small tear off sticker that you can keep in your user manual, however if this is lost there is a backup copy located on the side of the ULF module

| 7. I just installed the BMW Bluetooth system and not sure how to pair my phone. Can you please explain. |
| To pair the BMW bluetooth system with voice control (ULF) you will simply turn off the car. Then press and hold the pairing button, (not the steering wheel button), while holding turn on the ignition. Then let go of the button between 3-5 seconds. The timing must be just right or it will time out. It is letting go of the button that activates the pairing mode. The users manual is located on this page and a quick video on how to pair your phone is listed here

| 8. I am looking at the BMW Bluetooth system and would like to know if I can play music over bluetooth in my BMW. |
| No. Unfortunately BMW does not support "A2DP" the music over bluetooth protocol in the older BMWs. The radios in the older BMWs are not designed to support music over bluetooth only telephone over bluetooth. BMW is only recently coming out with that technology in the newer BMWs however this is only in a certain version of the fiber optic audio system BMWs that operate in a different function than the older BMWs. The BMW bluetooth system works quite well with telephone over bluetooth but music is therefore not supported. The bluetooth systems we offer for the new BMWs also do not support music over bluetooth as it is actually a function of the BMW radio itself and not the bluetooth system. |

| 9. I would like to upgrade my 2001 or older BMW from the small screen display to the widescreen display. Is this a plug and play upgrade and can I get a CD player behind the display? |
Yes the widescreen upgrade is a simple plug and play upgrade in BMWs with the MKII navigation system and higher (mid 1996-2001 BMWs) without any other requirements than a small trim piece that you can select when ordering. BMW Widescreen
BMW only offers a CD player behind the navigation display for the E46 3 series. There is no CD option behind the display for the E38 7 series, E39 5 Series, or E53 X5. PLEASE NOTE: If your BMW E46 3 series is equipped with the small screen display you will also need to upgrade the navigation radio module in order to support the CD display, as the older radio module only supports the Cassette tape in this situation you will need the widescreen display, BM53 Radio and Old to new adapter |

| 10. My BMW does NOT have Navigation and I would like to add navigation to the car. Can I just purchase the navigation display and everything will work? |
You can add navigation to a BMW that does not have navigation although it does require a full kit with brackets, navigation radio, navigation computer, display and wiring harness. Quick links to navigation retrofit kits are on this page Popular Item Links
A navigation display by itself will not do anything in the BMW...it is similar having a computer monitor without the computer, keyboard or power wire. You will need all of the parts of the navigation retrofit kit in order for the display to operate. A display by itself will not operate without all of the parts required.
Our Navigation retrofit Kits come with all of the parts required to install navigation in your BMW. |
